James R. Buckley Executive Vice President and Partner

James R. Buckley is an Executive Vice President and a Partner. He oversees the implementation of investor relations programs and provides strategic counsel to clients on a broad spectrum of communications issues including shareholder activism, acquisitions, proxy contests, investor day planning, earnings guidance, institutional ownership trends, analyst interactions and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Jim’s clients represent a cross-section of industry, including economic and financial consulting, energy, environmental, life sciences and technology.

Recent engagement and representation highlights include:
• Proxy communications that helped an industrial client successfully defend board seats.
• Coordination of several investor days that attracted record participation from sell-side and buy-side.
• Strategic positioning and messaging for several major acquisitions.

Prior to joining Sharon Merrill in 1993, he was a reporter for the Eagle Times in Claremont, NH. Jim received a B.A. in Journalism from Marquette University and an MBA from Boston College. A member of the National Investor Relations Institute, Jim is a frequent speaker and panelist at events sponsored by organizations including NIRI, PRSA, Business Wire, PR Newswire, the North Shore Technology Council and Venture-Preneurs. In addition, he has written articles on IR for publications such as Barron’s and Investor Relations Review, and currently teaches a course on investor relations at Boston University.
